I found this on DVD at Kmart a few months ago for 3.99. I haven't gotten around to watching it yet though. I do remember seeing this back in the 80's on VHS. I think it was a direct to video release. I didn't think it was that good. I only picked up the DVD because it was so cheap and it seems like a rare movie now.

This film is terrible, it was not direct to vedio, it cost $20 million to produce (which was a reasonably large budget back in 1986), and only managed to earn $4 million in it's BO takings. If you enjoyed any of the King Kong's I would reccomend staying away from this film.

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time...

I didn't realize that this was a theaterical release. It probably only played in bigger cities at the time. I'm almost positive that it never played where I live. The first time I recall seeing anything about this movie was the poster at our local video store. I just assumed it was direct to home video because it was so bad.

It's STILL preferable to the Toho Kong films, and John Scott's score is fantastic!

Got the 20th Century Fox DVD at Wal-mart in the Six dollar bin. Liked this movie when I was a kid, I still enjoy it.

Im from Australia and its definately available.

Try JB Hi-Fi, thats where I got mine for $5.00.

Oh and I also prefer this over SOME of the Toho films. I do like King Kong Escapes as much as I like this one, and I have it on DVD.

From Victoria, Melbourne, I bought the DVD from EzyDVD for $10. Just ask at your local EzyDVD store for King Kong lives or buy it online here: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/221126

if this movie cost 20 million back in 86 that would be $50 million in todays money.

reply

King Kong Lives was NOT made on a 20 million dollar budget but was SUPPOSED to be, the budget was slashed in half before filming began and some scenes had to be cut.

Also the Toho Kong films are much better than this turd of a movie. I think if Guillerman was hired, this might've been watchable.

Thanks for that Laser ID, I was way to late in looking for it as its not available any more but I have sent them an email :)

I thought this movie rocked and FOR ME is the best of the Kong movies thus I so want to get it on DVD. I was so different to the usual Kong movie and I loved the scenes in this, Im suprised so many dont like this version.
