Anyone know where in the USSR this was filmed?

Those rock formations at the beginning are amazing! There are so many of them that I doubt they're props.

How about that ferris wheel in the desert? Bizzare!

The Karakum Desert I think.

Though it would have been by far more funny if it would have been shot in the Kizilkum desert.

I just remembered something. The ship in the sand was shot at the former Aral lake.

As for the scene at the planet Alpha, it was filmed in the Moscow Botanical Garden . I was there!
