'Getting' Kin Dza Dza

I just watched this on Google Video. I'm English and big sci-fi fan. I enjoyed it very much. The plot was fairly strained and it lacked memorable scenes but the acting and minimalistic design were brilliant and it was good to see an inventive film that didn't take itself seriously.

And that's it. I didn't get anything deeper going on, maybe I'd need to be Russian to do so. So when people go round this board accusing other people of not understanding it, are they just being elitist or is there actually some clever social satire going on that I'm missing?

there is obviously a lot of social sattire in this film, such as the singing/dancing in a cage, "racism" and the funny greetings etc...but i think it has more of an effect if you can relate to it more by having experienced something similar for example...so its understandable you didnt get anything "deeper" from the movie.
