Why Sato would have destroyed Miyagi. (Cobra Kai Spoilers)

I think Sato would have defeated Miyagi if they were to fight. Here are the reasons.

1. Miyagi left Okinawa when he was still young. Sato on the other hand stayed and apparently maintained a good relationship with Miyagi's father. Thus, he would have trained in the more advanced Miyagi-do techniques Chozen used against Daniel. Chozen provided his own speculation as to why Daniel wasn't taught the paralyzing techniques, but it is possible Miyagi never got a chance to learn them in the first place. Sato learned more, and thus passed on that learning to Chozen, who easily defeated Daniel in their rematch.

2. Sato remained fit, where as Miyagi relied purely on skill. When facing Sato, fitness and Sato's size advantages would be insurmountable.

3. Drive. Sato have been waiting and training for decades to face Miyagi. Whereas Mr. Miyagi always believed he would talk his way out of fighting, so he never maintained the edge needed to win the fight. Sato had every reason to defeat Miyagi, whereas Miyagi felt he had no reason to fight. Give Sato the psychological edge.

Here are the main reasons why Miyagi would not win.

1. Size matters when both competitors are skilled. Miyagi is considerably smaller than Sato and would lose.

2. Miyagi had no drive to defeat Sato and probably couldn't bring himself to kill his friend. Sato on the other hand, had no reservations.

3. Miyagi trained in Miyagi-do for less time than Sato and never learned the advanced techniques.

You make some very good points but miss the most important one.

Miyagi was not going to fight Sato, he was merely going to stand there and let Sato do what he felt he must. So Sato had a free shot at Miyagi and as such could possibly have killed him with the first blow.

reply

We eventually got our answer in Cobra Kai. When Daniel (who is now Miyagi's equal) went back to face Chozen, Daniel like Miyagi before him, focused more on life outside karate, whereas Chozen focused purely on karate. Chozen went from being Daniel's equal, to far surpassing him. Sato focused purely on karate, while Miyagi did not therefore Sato would win.

reply

Miyagi had continued to practice, even after he came to The US, and may very well have also sampled other martial arts, like the Chinese ones that became popular thanks to Bruce Lee. Thus, he might have had an advantage over Sato

reply

We got no such answer. Miyagi practiced every day and let's not forget, he didn't teach Daniel everything. As I said though, we still probably wouldn't have found out seeing as Miyagi was never going to fight Sato.

reply

This makes no sense because Daniel beat Chozen as he proved to be the better fighter

reply

Daniel did win, though it must be pointed out that it was via the wildly silly and uncreative drum technique. The writers really fucked up with that one. In no universe except the Karate Kid universe is wildly swinging your arms throwing wide hooks considered a good and effective fighting technique.

At least with the crane kick the sheer goofiness of the movement might be enough to distract and confuse an opponent.

Everybody picks on the crane technique but if do properly, no can defense.
