The whole village was willing to witness a violent murder?

The final fight was apparently a fight to the death, but the whole village was cool with that? Nobody made any attempt to put a stop to the violence. What if Chozen beat Larusso to death? It would be an international incident.

reply

It would be an international incident.

Why? Because some kid got beat to death. Happens all the time in Spain. Newsworthy maybe, but International incident...doubtful.

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

Because a foreign national, a tourist, got violently beaten to death in front of AN ENTIRE VILLAGE, just watching and egging on the fight. The mayor, the police chief, they were probably all there watching. Wouldn't the American embassy want answers

Anyway, another question is, why were the villagers, including young children, all cool with watching a fight to the death? What kind of sick people are these?
Bridge across or no bridge, I'd be trying to stop it. Swim across if you have to.

And they would be met with a wall of silence.

The same type who turn up to executions I would think.

Yeah, but that's you.

reply

Well didn't Miyagi feel some responsibility here? He has a highly inexperienced student he has dragged into a life and death battle with a highly trained and physically far more powerful opponent.

reply

Yes, he did feel some responsibility. Probably felt guilty too.

The story of the girl, who went missing in the Caribbean a few years ago, was on the news for several years, and we sent people down to the island to investigate it.

Americans getting beheaded by ISIS are international incidents. How would this be any different? Non-criminal Americans getting murdered in a different country do not go unnoticed by our government.

reply

The world has changed a lot since 1985 hasn't it?

That's what they were rooting for. So have the viewers the past couple of decades.

Hey, there's no incident if the foreigner's body is never found, know what I'm sayin'? Travelers 'disappear' all the time...

This was a village of hard working people hard-up for some entertainment. If they want to see Daniel LaRusso's blood, I think they're entitled. So were we, for that matter. Too bad he lived, and wasn't even considerate enough to sate the audience's bloodlust by finishing his fallen foe.

reply

This was their first taste of reality TV. And they loved it.

Never mind the authorities in Okinawa or the Embassy, imagine Mr Miyagi explaining Daniel getting his neck snapped to Mrs LaRusso.

I think the conversation would have gone something like this:

Miyagi:
Mrs LaRusso-san, Daniel-san met with unfortunate accident in Okinawa. Psychic trained ninja killed him over blood-fued Miyagi had with uncle over 50 years ago.

Mrs LaRusso:
What do mean?! Why didn't you help him?

Miyagi:
Daniel-san was surrounded by 12 inch deep moat with 2 whole feet of water. Miyagi was wearing Obon dance robe, very difficult to clean...

Mrs LaRusso:
Dance? This was at a dance?! There were other people there too???

Miyagi:
Oh yes, Obon dance big festival, lots of people, loud music, great food.

Mrs LaRusso:
And nobody tried to help him?!

Miyagi:
Honour very serious in Okinawa...

Mrs LaRusso:
So you just stood there and watched???

Miyagi:
Miyagi played drum...

Mrs LaRusso:
You played a drum?!

Miyagi:
Drum was Miyagi-family secret of Karate.

Brilliant post.

LMAO at some of these posts! Awesome, just awesome.

Maybe Tomi village had these kind of beatings pretty regularly at their Obon dances, and they were really enjoying seeing an exotic young American in the mix getting the tar beat out of him.

reply

I miss when people had suspension of belief.

Guess there really are people who act worse than 12 year olds.

reply

Let's face it.

Daniel-San was in Okinawa long enough to have p!ssed off plenty of locals with his repellent personality. They were more than willing to watch this massacre take place.

If Chozen hadn't have challenged him at the ceremony, you can bet the townsfolk would have eventually chased him through the village with torches, and pounded him to death with rocks and shovels.

reply

Daniel was a walking mess. He encountered a lot of people who had difficulties suppressing rage and repeated episodes of violent episodes, but that didn't stop him from antagonizing them or doing dumb things. In the first movie, he's already made a bunch of enemies, but he antagonizes them. Then, in the second movie, the girl tries to tell him not to enter a bar because it's a bad place. He goes in anyway and immediately starts talking smack about how they're doing it wrong.

I'm just expressing my opinion.

You may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas.

reply

Well, he was right. Just ask Mr Miyagi and his $1800 winnings.

It may have turned out favorably for him, but I don't think that's the same thing as making a good decision.

So, just to refresh.....
Chozen kills Daniel and he goes to jail or, Daniel kills Chozen and the village is rid of him.
Since neither happened.....then what?

Kills himself....really?
Why?

[deleted]

Why didn't Kreese do the same?
Also, surely Barnes would have killed himself because of the same reason. That is he would have if Kreese and Silver hadn't murdered him and dumped his body in toxic sludge.
