If you were Daniel

how would you have reacted to Ali telling you that she had fallen in love with a ucla football player? What would you say to her?

reply

If I were Danielle, I would curse the gods. As for the Ali situation, it was only a matter of time. He never had a shot at keeping her.

reply

If I were Whineielle?

To prove my love, I'd find the guy and pound his massive chest with my puny fists until he got tired of it and dispatched me with one blow.

I guess I would have said: "have a great life with that tall, well built, handsome stud with a multi million football contract waiting for him upon graduation who will pound you into sublime ecstasy with his mighty athletic manhood...." I would have followed that up with: "once you go Reseda, you will never retreata"

But all kidding aside, I thought that scene was way out of place. From the way Ali was written and played in the first film, she would never have two timed him. Broken up with him and later met the football player, yeah. If the actress didn't want to reprise the role, or if the writers wanted Daniel unattached in Okinawa, they could have done something like her family being transferred to France, or Ali getting a Rhodes Scholarship or something.

Just once, I'd like someone to call me sir without adding 'you're making a scene' ~H Simpson

reply

I would have said: " You Jezebel. I have given all my love to you, and now you do this? When this guy breaks your heart, don't come crying back to me."
I agree with you that that scene was way out of place. I think a better way to explain the situation would have been that she had gotten into Harvard or Princeton or Yale or some Ivy League school. after all, she's a rich chick.

reply

Yeah, it would have been better for her to go away to college and to say she doesn't believe in long-distance relationships or some such.

reply

Daniel should be happy and continue his quest in testing every women in the world.

A man should sleep with every women in the world before he settles down. How otherwise does he know who is the best? And remember that Asian women have it sideways.

reply

agreed.

reply

I think she dumped Daniel because he was impotent.

reply

Clearly he wasn't worthy of her to begin with, and he has proven he can't keep any girl for too long. I get the impression these chicks initially go for him because they're going through a mothering phase, and feel sorry for his sorry state of being. They grow out of it, and realize they need a real man.

reply

Wonder why she dumped Johnny? Clearly he wasn't worthy of her either!

reply

It's easy to see what happened in both cases. As a girlfriend, she wants to be her boyfriend's most important thing. OK, immediate family members can have priority but that doesn't extend to best buddies and mentors. So in Johnny's case, his Kai bros were obviously more important than Ali. He didn't need to make declarations about it, we saw how tight they were. She even said "take your Cobra Kai and leave" when he came to talk to her at the beach. You could feel the irritation with Cobra Kai. So that would be the gist of their break-up.

OTOH, Daniel exclaimed that Miyagi was "more important than anything" so we really didn't need to see what a trainwreck his relationship with Ali had become because of it. His statement was enough to enlighten us about what happened. That she crashed his car is no fluke. The car was the gift from the "more important than anything" guy and since she couldn't crash him she crashed the next best thing and called it quits.

reply

Really?

reply

Yep. Girls like to be #1. Second place is no place. hence break-ups.

reply

Daniel never said Miyagi was more important in the first movie. Ali continued to see Daniel for months, even going to the prom with him. Granted she had started seeing the other guy, but that reveals that Ali is a spoilt little rich girl who soon gets bored once she has what or who she wants.

reply

They weren't a real couple in the first movie. They officially hooked up right before the tournament. I can imagine that Miyagi became more important than anything after the tournament which is why the romance lasted only 6 months.

reply

Only six months is a life time when you are that age. Some marriages don't make it that far.
No, I think she went out with Johnny because he was the head jock. Then she got bored with somebody who maybe got more attention than her. She then spots the new kid ( who appears to be the polar opposite to Johnny). This new kid though goes on to be the all valley champ and as such drags attention from Ali. So Ali finds herself somebody who ( though a football player) won't take all her limelight and is (probably) her social equal.

reply

Ok, Daniel stated that Miygai was more important than anything. That had to play the part in the break up more than Daniel signing autograms for Reseda kids. The only one that was dragging attention from Ali was Miyagi. stop shielding this guy. Ali isn't the only one who left. Mom left too.

reply

Daniel DIDN'T say Miyagi was more important until after he and Ali split up. I am not shielding him, you are speculating that Daniel 'MAY ' have said this to Ali!

reply

No, I'm not even saying that he said that to Ali. I'm saying that he gave him the priority and she felt slighted. That's what I'm saying. Just like I'm saying that she felt she was not as important to Johnny as Kai were. Nobody needs to say anything but their actions can pretty much show who #1 is. Daniel wouldn't say "more important than anything" if he didn't feel that way for some time. It wasn't overnight. I always hated that sentence not because of Ali but how unfair it was to his mother.

reply

You are presuming a lot considering we see nothing of that 6 months. Maybe Daniel thought that the only person who didn't dump him or lie to him was Miyagi!

we'll agree to disagree about how extreme that line is.

Fair enough

At what point does LaRusso sit down like a man and say: "where is my life going"? Johnny did it. Johnny also had higher aspirations than collecting food stamps every month.

reply

At what point is Daniel seen collecting food stamps in any of these movies?

Gentlemen, England will be playing 4-4-f---ing-2

reply

But you are forgetting that Miyagi thought him that higher aspirations and ambition were bad. "win lose no matha" is a mantra for losers with no higher aspirations. In Miyagi world striving to win is bad because he's a loser so his philosophy is sour grapes. Daniel was stupid to take advise from someone whose family couldn't produce anything better than a generation of drunk fisherman and their last member was worse - a drunk super in a dump. Also, this punk insulted WW2 heroes by calling Medal of Honor "luck". If Daniel was a mensch, he would have spit on him after those words, turn on his heel and leave the bastard forever. Instead, the slimeball said "you are more important than college, more important than anything to me Mr Miyagi."

reply

Compounded with "I don't want your house, I want you", those lines indicate an unhealthy attachment. Miyagi was clearly programming the mindset of a love slave for trafficking purposes. Danielle is totally dependent on him. He needs him there for his fights in order to win, needs to go to Okinawa with him, and needs to put his arm around his shoulder in a moment of sorrow (something two supposed heterosexual men would not normally do). Can you blame Ali for running off with a UCLA player? It must be painful to be the third wheel in your own relationship. Yes, serious evaluation was needed.

reply

Exactly. Daniel was dumb as heck and Miyagi used that to manipulate him any way he liked. Good manipulators know how to make their victim believe that he/she made decisions of their own will, when in reality they were subtly nudged and winked in the direction of a decision that benefited the manipulator. Flying to Okinawa benefited Miyagi only. Opening tree shop with colege money benefited Miyagi only. Etc.

Tell you what's unhealthy here.
Giving far too much thought and credence to something that was neither implied or intended, and adding 21st century values to it.

reply

If 21st century values change the content and context so much than these pressumed "classics" aren't as timeless as hype wants us to believe.

reply

Who says it is timeless. That's like saying Stand By Me is timeless.

Stand By Me is timeless.

reply

I love "Stand By Me"!

reply

It isn't. It's a classic, but it isn't timeless.

You're old enough to kill, but not for voting....

reply

Listen, his mother was a idiot dingbat and Ali with a I, got his azz kicked all the time, I don't care how good the love hole is, nothing is worth the abuse that whining Daniel took on a daily bases, nothing! I would rather go back to Newark where I'm known then in fruitcake flake land like California.
Now, if that stupid skank crashed MY car that was a GIFT to me, b!tch U better replace it with a delourin or something fancy and PAY my insurance too otherwise, her brake lines may have a MALFUNCTION since we are thinking out loud here, then she WILL know what a crash is, U best believe it lady!

Spoiler alert for them spoil sports out there! Y'all like spoiled milk, stop crying over it!

reply

It made sense because Ali looked like an '80s high school cheerleader.

reply

Id say 'well thanks bitch face, i went through all that crap, was beaten to death every bloody day because of you pretty much & now your sodding off anybody"

Well you deserve Johnny & i wish hed have slapped you one.
Bitch

reply

I wouldn't say anything to her. I'd call up her parents and tell them their daughters likes 2 in the pink and 1 in the stink and let them figure that out.

reply

Errrrr ok not sure what that means :)

reply

If I were Daniel, i'd tell the ham of a bitch, "Bye!"
