This Doesn't Deserve All The Hate.

Okay so it could be better and more developed, but I've always been entertained by this film. I found the idea of an alien duck having trouble fitting in and the storyline of an alien body possessing Jeffrey Jones to be entertaining to watch. Lea Thompson is beautiful here and the 80's surrealism, such as a whole diner turning aganist Howard and wanting to eat him, was also entertaining.

There are some bizarre and clunky moments, and the aeroplane sequence bogs the story down, but I've never understood the sheer hatred towards the film and that's another reason why I don't take film critics seriously.

It's not so well known now, but back in the day this movie stopped another from being made. A sequel to Michael Radford's movie 1984 starring the late, great John Hurt was on the cards entitled 1986.

Orson Welles was penned to write it and everything was approved when suddenly Orson died and confidence quickly dropped in its success. Howard the Duck was quickly pulled together by Willard Huyck who was riding on the successes of a good writing spree and connections within Lucasfilm and Jim Henson studios.

Most of the hate for Howard the Duck isn't about the film itself, but rather the film that never was and HtD replaced, the fabled 1986.

Wow, thanks for that info! So a lot of the hatred for the duck boils down to grudges and politics it would seem. That's screwed up.

I loved it!

I skip school to watch repeats. It was addicting!

I still like HTD I have it on blu ray to.
