Funny story
The Grocery Store scene was shot in a supermarket a few blocks from my house. Every morning on my husbands way to work he would watch them filming. One early morning my husband was driving by and saw Ron Howard standing in the parking lot by himself, my husband pulled over, rolled his window down and said "Hey Opie whats up? And Ron answered that he was the only one who showed up and no one I mean no one else was there..needless to say he was pissed. My husband said "man thats too bad, seeya later" and drove off...

At the union hall shoot, dahn on the Sahside, oops! I mean down on the South Side, Between shoots a group of guys started chanting "Opie!, Opie!, Opie!" Howard took his bullhorn and joked back "Gee! I didn't think anyone remembered." They then started chanting "Richie, Richie, Richie."

The store where they filmed those scenes was this dingy old supermarket called FoodTown. It was located in Wilkinsburg. Had it not been for "Opie" and his movie it would of closed down that year, needless to say it closed down the following year....
