Somewhat eerily prophetic and timely too
This movie is an excellent and important time capsule. After Japanese concluded that they can make cheaper cars, pay lesser wages and get more obedient workers in China, they left the US. This may be an inaccurate, over the top, feel good movie, but it tackles a topic no other film at the time (and especially not since then) even attempted to cover. In the 80's, even comedies had a serious undercurrent to them. This one is even kind of unintentionally prophetic and leaves a slight eery feeling when you think about where the US and Japanese auto industry went on from there.
