80's cars

Does anyone else think that cars made in the '80's were really ugly? Good, but not realistic movie. Very entertaining.

reply

80's cars sucked! All boxy.

reply

They tied an onion to their grille, coz that was the style of the time.

The cream, the bone, the white, the off-white, the ivory, or the beige?

reply

It's really strange because if you grew up in the 80s they somehow seemed "modern" at the time. Of course the 70s cars were awful in their own way, heavy and tank-like so they seemed like an improvement. Nobody thought they were better than 50s/60s cars but the tradeoff (supposedly) was efficiency. The cars from the 90s and beyond got much better.

reply

Yeah but the 50's gave us the 57 Bel Air, the 56 Thunderbird and a whole host of other beautiful cars.

reply

I grew up in the eighties, and yeah, they seemed sleek and sexy compared to the boats that came before them.

I remember new cars that seemed very modern at the time of their release:

Ford Taurus
Ford Aerostar
Ford EXP
Chevrolet Lumina APV
Dodge/Chrysler Mini-Van
Pontiac Fiero

redesigned notes: Ford Thunderbird. Chevrolet Camaro. Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am. Toyota Supra.

That's just to name a few. Seemed highly modern and ushering in a new wave of modern style. At least those are the ones I remember.
