I wonder why Jason's father was not in the film despite being in the novel since it would have given his character much needed bac k story thst just another killer.

They probably just didn't have the budget to shoot the scenes.

I believe it is mentioned in the commentary. The director mentions wanting to incorporate the father but the studio brass turned it down.
