For all its horror, meanings and themes, this is one of the most Tragic Comedies I think I've ever watched. Goldblum is the perfect Brundle-Fly. And by being so funny, it actually makes the film MORE creepy because of how Human the character of Brundle is. You truly feel for the man in his descent. It such an odd juxtaposition but it works remarkably well. Kind of similar to how 'Blue Velvet' works on different levels from one second to the next.

I agree! It's one of reasons why I love this film so much.
Jeff is perfect in everything, but Seth, along with Ian Malcolm, are his best characters to date.

Agreed, there are many funny moments, which is fitting as it's a very human response to the situation.

Yes when he's first changing and craving sugar and talking fast is quite funny and perfect for Goldblum.
