Proof this film is a classic

I bought this movie for my girlfriends younger brothers and sister ranging from 9 to 3, they all quote from the movie like i did when i first watched it when i was 10. Maxs laugh, "too many twinkies" "See you later navigator".

I personally think that this is a timeless favourite as although its a kids film, its funny.....as hell. Also the special effects are still amazing today and it doesnt treat the viewers like imbeciles.

Any other movies that surprised you that kids today liked?

reply

Short Circuit.

But 'Johnny 5' and Max are too silmilar for my liking. Come to think about it - the two films are similar!

I was totally shocked when my teen son happened to catch "Man's Favorite Sport" on TV starring Rock Hudson and Paula Prentiss and he absolutely loved it! So much that I bought it for him and he loves to watch it.

reply

OP: I agree.

I just watched the movie today, and it is much more intelligent and uses lots of concepts that are could some day be very realistic to time traveling (the concept of speed of light)....and as far as the movie not getting too outlandish.

the special effects were used very well, especially the CGI (it wasn't overused, like movies today fall in love with).

It wasn't overly cute or oversaturated it was just right.

Hah-hah! Same here!

My girlfriend and I had a thing going where we'd watch films from each others' childhoods. I chose Flight of the Navigator because she'd never seen it before (she was born later than me). Now whenever she agrees on something, she uses Max's "Compliance."

I watched this over and over when I was a kid. The funny thing is, my other favorite movie growing up was Back to the Future. I just realized that Alan Silvestri did the music for both of them.

reply

Alan Silvestri also did the music for the Tom Hanks movie "Forrest Gump"

"Run Forrest Run"

reply

Not to mention "The Abyss" and "Contact", two incredible movies. The man has a hell of a resume.

Actually, he did "Ferngully", another childhood favorite of mine.

reply

this was definitely one of my faves growing up and i agree that it is a classic because kids will still watch it today...wel the cool ones anyway and i think the goonies is another movie like this.

Batteries not inclueded has a lot of the same 80's sci fi/comedy/adventure elements as this one - perhaps also Innerspace..

My nephew really enjoyed both of them - and Flight of the Navigator too, though he still likes the two new tranformers movies more..

But yeah - movies like this one are a dime a dozen, the movies of today can't compare in anyway - now it's just all about tons of fake looking CGI, hot babes and weird plots, that no one cares about..

More proof that this is a classic is that you can put it in your soup, or your friends soup!

I dare somebody to get that reference.

I have a cousin thats 10.5 yrs younger than me and a few yrs back I showed her Adventures in Babysitting and she loved it,also I showed her Now and then a yr before that, now thas mid nineties my early teen yrs but she loved that too.she is 17 now and often makes fun of things from the 80s and things she is too young to remeber. However i found she loved the Little Mermaid and she liked the Original star wars series. At one time she though both series were dumb casue they were"old'.One day i hope to show her flight of the Navigator(our friendship has fallen out now, hopefully things will get better,im not goinf into waht happened).Ive mentioned fight of the Navigator around classmates and a few others and some actaully seemed interested.I love the phrases and the storyline. One of my childhood favs, its hasnt lost its magic even now and im and adult

I remember the outside views of the spaceship, and there were many and they were long shots, absolutely stunned me.

This is the reason I need to see it again
