What game was David's father talking about???

The movie takes place in july 1978 and david's dad looks at david wtahcing the boats and says "aren't you gonna watch the game?" now since this takes place in '78. the only professional sports franchise that existed in the Miami-Ft Lauderdale area was the Miami Dolphins infact even at the time they filmed this it was the only team in the area and since this is July only baseball would be in season. The Marlins wouldn't come to town til 1993 same thing with the Panthers and the Heat wouldn't come until 1988. So unless they're watching minor league baseball What game would David's father be talking about???

Another game from another place of interest possibly being syndicated over one of Ft Lauderdale's wonderful TV stations?

Baseball teams had their games aired on television in larger cities back in 1978, even if the team was not in close proximity.

Not everyone follows an immediately local team. Could have been college sports as well, I guess.

There aren't any college sports being played in July either....

Another poster had it right, it is most certainly a Major League Baseball game...maybe the Atlanta Braves (seems like they are the closest to Florida)
