Tha factors behind not being successful
In its initial box office opening this film was not very successful does anyone know the reason behind it?. When I first saw the trailers on tv I really wanted to see the movie.

The cast and lack of a star name has been given as a reason for it not doing well. It's a little surprising as it was a Disney film with much talked about effects for the time. Maybe there was a lot of competition in other films released at the same time since it was released in the summer.
ROCK STARS HAVE KIDNAPPED MY SON
Well the effects crew who worked on the film (Fantasy 2) had the last laugh. They went on to use the same morph effects for the T-1000 in Terminator 2, and that was highest grossing film ever at the time.
shareRegardless of being a theatrical disappointment, this movie must've been a huge success elsewhere on home vhs and cable, 'cause everyone knew this movie growing up where I was from.
Pizza? Thin or thick? Chicago.
It may have flopped at the box office but thats why it was a hit with 80s kids because normally box office flops had a way of being repeated constantly as filler during their runs on cable and video rentals. Many failed box office films had that effect, the other one that comes to mind is "Just One of the Guys" that was on ALL THE TIME!!

True. Iron Eagle, which came out the same year as this movie, got a sequel based on its home video sales despite a low box office.
Innerspace was also huge on VHS and became a cult movie despite bombing as well. There are lots of examples of this, especially classic movies from the 80s.
High box office has never been a true indicator of quality.

Whenever a great film flops at the box office, I look at the trailer and can immediately see why. They usually have a terrible trailer.
This film is no exception

I was looking over great films from the 80s that flopped and the trailers for Big Trouble in Little China and The Princess Bride were terrible too.
