best movie ever

this is a fantastic movie and the special effects are good considering it was done in the 80's!

Concur, this is in my Top 5 of All Time (I'm 23 and have seen hundreds of movies as well!)

reply

X3 I'm 25 and I love it. One of my favorites of all time. I can still sit back and watch in awe thinking poor David, how is he ever going to get back? ;)

reply

I'm 29 and adore this film. I always thought it was too short but it's a lot of fun and I guess kids films always have to be short.

reply

well i'm 20 and i thought it was okay, werent that good.

reply

You guys apparently haven't seen very many movies.

reply

If you didn't see it as a kid, then i guess it wouldn't holdany appeal to you if you're above the age of 12 currently.

Loved this movie as a kid, and still love it now. Alhough i wouldn't rate it in my top 20...or maybe even 50 anymore.
Nice little movie that brings back some memories of when i was a kid!

This is one of my favs. I grew up on this movie!

Giles: Don't taunt the Fear Deamon
Xander: Why can he hurt me?
Giles: No, it's just tacky.

well i'm 27....since we're all stating our age for some....reason. And this movie used to be my favorite movie as a kid. I wouldn't put it in my top ten favorites of all time, but its def a fav of all time. glad i went looking for it and bought it.

People who didn't see it as a kid might not appreciate it. hell any kid to see it today might think wow, what crappy FX, but man this stuff was the *beep* when i was a kid.

I'm only 17 and I remember watching this movie when I was a really small girl. It was fantastic, my mum and I would both be enthralled by every second of it. But I agree that if anyone over the age of 12 were to view it in modern day it wouldn't hold the same appeal.

reply

im 30 and i remember everything cool about this movie.. yea the fx was the *beep* back in the day.omg r.a.l.f. come on ralfy baby!!!

I wouldn't go quite as far as "best...movie...ever!", as there have been many-a-movies made since that would definately surpass this in terms of storyline, acting, and overall quality...

However, I think the people who would appreciate this film most were those whom were around in the 80's... especially 80's kids (myself included). When the film came out, I was around the kid's age, so I could somewhat relate to the film.

Being thrown into the modern year 1986 from 1978 which seemed a distance off even back then, really put the film in a certain time-period trying to seem 'new' with pop-culture refrences to what's "new" or "modern" in 1986 including music videos, Twisted Sister, toys like Transformers, and other stuff that now-a-days seem extremely dated.

Those of us who watched the movie back in the 80's when it was first released can understand it, and even more-so now... vs those who are watching it for the first time from a later generation who really have knowledge of these fossil and ancient pop-culture refrences really can't appreciate the film quite as much (or at the very least... on the same level).

I really enjoyed it, and never knew Paul Rebeuns was the voice of Max... I was always wondering why, after he scanned David's brain, that he was doing these Pee-Wee Herman-imitation laughs... but in fact weren't imitations!

I've been a fan of Flight of the Navigator since 1988. Our teacher showed us a VHS copy and treated us to punch and cookies. I like the way the film mixes live puppets with early generation CGI. Alan Silvestri's energetic music score was superb, too. The kids in my class liked the scenes with the dogs trying to catch Frisbees. Best E.T. rip off ever!

I have a bare-bones DVD copy of FOTN. I hope they release a 2 disc special edition on DVD or Bluray(like they did with Tron).

I have fond memories of this film. It's one of my favorite movies from my childhood. I think the morphing effects for the ship were superb and a precursor for T1000 and that thing from the Abyss ...maybe. I dunno...

I'm .... years old (that's older than you dare think!) and I find this film excellent!

Well, I'm 62 and I still love this film. I've watched it many times since 1986.

Whenever I want to watch a film at 2 in the morning I riffle through my DVD collection, and if I haven't watched TFOTN for more than a year then I pull that out, crack open a can of beer, and settle back to enjoy it again.

The reason I'm visiting this board now is because I've done just that. Watched TFOFTN for about the 10th time and found it just as enjoyable as the first time. Magic.

I was no more than 8 when I first saw this and didn't speak a word of English. Had to Google "an alien eats a boy's hat" to even find out the name of this movie. Hah. Now I'm 21 and is working in the film industry...

This movie has something that I rarely see now: charm. It pretty much fails on all accounts of story strength and technical and/or artistic execution, but it has a lot of charm, making it one of the very few movies that I can recall from my childhood. The post-Fight Club (and a dozen other movies plus world events) days just isn't as warm and fuzzy as they used to be, eh?

This was one of my favorite films when I was a kid, up there with Monster Squad and Harry and the Hendersons. Bought the DVD when it finally hit a few years ago, and I must say, much of my love has died over the years. It didn't hold that childhood charm for me anymore. But one day, maybe my kids will love it. (Still love those little collection of aliens on the ship though).

Disagree with last post. This is an excellent movie. When I was younger I could watch the same movies over and over. As I get older I tend not to do that anymore. You will find faults in any movie if you insist on looking for them.
