I have just watched this movie, and I loved it. Really nice to watch a comedy with some depth to it. Far off from what comes out in cinemas these days (I had to switch off Bruno after 10 min).
Any recommendations of good comedies in the same style or same period?

All I can think of is Lost In Yonkers which isn't quite as good and doesn't have as much depth and isn't in the same period, but someone had to answer. You might like it anyway.

You may like outrageous fortune, real genius, l.a. story, trading places, greedy, what about bob?, only the lonely, my cousin vinny, the great outdoor, plane trains and automobiles,national lampoons vacation, national lampoons christmas vacation and european vacation, caddyshack, fletch, uncle buck, nine to five (1980),big business, ferris bueller's day off, three amigos, spies like us, ghostbusters 1 and 2,can't think of anything else right now. but i am sure there are more.
you want some great old comedy? watch the ladykillers (1955), harvey (1950), arsenic and old lace (1944),bringing up baby (1938). great movies.
