Down and Out is actually an extradinary re-make
Many years ago I viewed Pasolini's "Teorama" in a movie theater. When I saw "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" on VHS, I realized that this wonderful comedy was actually a remake of Pasolini's film. Pasolini's tale is not a comedy at all, but a much grittier and grimmer predecessor of "Down and Out...," which is indisputably a comic version of "Teorama." I will not judge one film as "better" than the other, but "Down and Out..." is clearly more entertaining and much more fun to watch.
