frank zappa reference

anyone else notice this, when he drops his daughter off at the airport, a woman over the tannoy announces that "the white zone is for unloading and loading only". thought it was quite funny, ive only discovered zappa in the last year or so but seen a few films with references to him

Not sure if that's a Zappa ref. The LA Airport PA did that "white zone is for loading and unloading" announcement for years at the outside entrance, and it has been featured in films before "Down And Out", most notably 1980's "Airplane!" I think it's just part of what you'd expect to hear in that place and time.

@ slokes...that is a good point...I have not been in an airport since the late '50's, so I will take your word on this. What I DO know is that this line is definitely in "Joe's Garage", the line in question being broadcast by the "CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER", so both of you are right.

reply

It's rather that Zappa was making an airport reference in Joe's Garage.

Yeah I think the OP is really talking about the ref to L. Ron Hoover and the First Church of Appliantology. j/k that wasn't really in there.
