Goof in Scene About Taylor Mountain?

In the scene at Bob's home in March 1975, Bob and Sam are with Bob's wife and Sam's secretary at night. Then Bob receives the call about a skull being found on Taylor Mountain. He leaves and it is day when he scales the mountain. The next scene shows Bob rejoining Sam, his wife and Sam's secretary back at Bob's home.

Was it a goof going from night to day? It seemed odd that Sam and his secretary would stay awake all night at Bob's home waiting with his wife. It could easily have been a demonstration of their dedication, though.

According to Dr. Keppel, he did get the call about the skull find in the evening, went to check it out, then had patrol keep the area safe and then he and his crew went back first thing in the morning. The scene that shows him slipping and coming literally face to "face" with another skull isn't an invention, either - that really happened.
