Deadly Friend CE soundtrack with Craven interview.

Wes Craven and Charles Bernstein have recently completed a Collectors edition of the Deadly Friend soundtrack featuring an in-depth interview with Craven himself about the movie.

It will be released on Perseverance Records:

No release date yet but I'm looking forward to finaly hearing Cravens version of events as to why a promising movie turned in to dog poop.

For those of you who give a damn, the above is now available to order from Perseverance Records. Limited to 1000 copies though!

Got it, but its not complete. The Varese Sarabande LP version has 4 tracks (including one pivotal one) that are not present on the new cd. I will say that the quality is really nice and there are additional tracks not featured on the original lp. I imagine if you combined the two it would be a complete listening experience.
My two cents

I have the original LP to. I'm peeved because on both versions the score that pulsates during the finale where Paul & Sam embrace in the shed before she's killed for the second time, is missing! A brilliant piece of music IMHO.

The interview is disappointing, Craven hardly talks about Deadly Friend, it's as if he'd rather be somewhere else. Shame, i wanted to hear his side of the story in terms of the script re-writes and that dumb as *beep* ending.

I really love that little slice of music, too. I recorded it off the DVD with Sound Recorder, recently, but I don't know that much about recording (so many different ways to save it). I'm sure that someone can make it in better quality. Have you attempted such a thing, yet?

I've burned a CD with the electronic mock-ups and a few extra bits to put with the Collector's Edition. I even made a cute CD cover of BB's head. What do you think I should name the aforementioned piece of music (for the tracklist insert)? "Embrace?" "Sam Breaks Through?" "If The Shed's A-Rockin', Don't Come A-Knockin'?"

One more thing, if it's not too much trouble, could you upload a photo of the back cover of the LP? I keep seeing pictures of the front cover, and I'd like to see the back. You also mentioned having an original CD. Is it the same as the LP? Thanks for any help!

I know this sounds weird--it was refreshing when Tommy was killed. I hate seeing these movies and such where they shy away from children being killed

I fully agree that some films do tend to shy away from children being kill. Tom was roughed up pretty good in the film.

I would name the piece "New Born".

I'm afraid I don't have a scan of the back cover. It features a close up shot of Anne Ramsay in mid-scream just before she's about to be three-pointered. Next to it is a pic of Sam breaking her Dads hand in the boiler room.

Both scenes are in the movie. You haven't missed anything :)

Oh, I was just going to see if it looked good enough to use as the CD inlay. I put the LP's tracks on a CD and switched out the new Collector's Edition into a 2-disc jewel case. So, now it just looks like a 2-disc Collector's Edition. I've made one inlay for the LP stuff with the Deadly Friend title (the one from the movie's opening credits) and just a black background with yellow tracklist. I've also made one with a screenshot of Elvira's head exploding, the tracklist beside her. I can't decide which one I like better.

I'm also working on a DVD chapter insert. I hate when DVDs leave them out. The insert holders will DIE if they don't serve a purpose in life!

I received the CD last Saturday. The website said that they were sold out, so I had to get it from Ebay.

The CD has some really nice music, but I was also a little disappointed in the interview. They talked about A Nightmare on Elm Street way too much. Yes, it's my favorite horror movie, but I just assumed that the interview would be about Deadly Friend (I was anxious to hear about the "Alternate Ending").

I downloaded a score for the movie last year. It may've been a rip from the LP you mentioned, but I'm not sure. It's the more electronic score, and I think there are 18 tracks. Anyway, I'm happy to have this CD and can't wait for the DVD. I haven't seen the movie in many years, but I've always loved it.

P.S. I just finished reading the book the movie's based on ("Friend") a month or so ago.

What did you think of the book? I think it's an excellent story. Diana Henstell tragically died two years after writing Friend in a car accident I believe.

The interview is somewhat underwhelming, as you say they talk about ANOES for far too long. My guess is Craven didn't have much to say about Deadly Friend because it's not a film he was pleased with and at the time he also faced a $30M law-suit by some nutter who claimed to have written ANOES. If that wasn't enough he also had those clowns at Warner Studios on his back demanding script changes and additional gore scenes which ultimately removed the essence of the story.

She died? That's terrible. I did enjoy the book. It took me a while to really get into it, though, and Paul was not a very likeable person. It was nice to see them as young teenagers, and--I know this sounds weird--it was refreshing when Tommy was killed. I hate seeing these movies and such where they shy away from children being killed.

!!SPOILERS!!

In the book my sympathies are with Sam all the way. I was disappointed with Bruce Joel Rubens 'Harry Pringle' talk about under developed. He's evil to Sam for seemingly no reason, in the book you understand his torment but have little sympathy for the drunken brute. Tommy wasn't killed in the movie, in the book Sam stabs him to death.

I couldn't believe Diana died so prematurely and at the top of her game, a real shame.

I agree that Harry was under-developed in the film.
