Why was Paul allowed back into hospital?

OK,, So first Paul stole Sam's corpse from her hospital bed. Fine, it's sorta believable...
THEN I saw the scene where the po-po's showed up at daddy's doorstep (before he was killed) probably thinking he stole her bod. Fine, I'll buy it...


Here's my issue:

Why in the F was Paul free after Sam was killed AGAIN by the fuzz?? I'm sure, in the movie, the characters were thinking "why in the ____ is this b_tch STILL running around assaulting people????"

And in the last scene where the Doc is asked by the coroner if he'll be there for the autopsy, he says "I'll be here. This should be one for the books" implying he knows what happened, or AT LEAST that Paul was involved.

Soo.... Why was Paul not in police custody?? Why was he free to sneak back into the hospital to visit Sam once again??? Ya know, before she became an evil BB and snapped his neck....


There are other legal discrepancies I saw, but cannot think of at the moment. It's been a long day, and doggone it, I needed some gin & tonics.
