The ending was just a dream. Sam had the computer chip implanted into her brain. It was a slow process but the moment before she was shot, she came full circle. It was like a Shakespeare tragedy. Sam returned and then she was shot. When she turns into a robot at the end it was a dream. Robots don't grow!!!!!!

Or how about this was just a really dumb movie and they pulled the ending out of their arse. It's never explicitly revealed to be a dream sequence.
"I've been living on toxic waste for years, and I'm fine. Just ask my other heads!"
It's not a dumb movie, but I do feel the ending was just pulled out of nowhere to have a final twist. I think the credits should've started right after Samantha was shot. But other than that, I loved the movie. I would hope the ending was a dream sequence because I liked Paul and didn't want to see him die.

How about it was just one last gag at attempting a fright before the closing credits? It's not like they planned a sequel or thought people would take the movie so seriously.
