Ridiculous, even for the 80s, and almost intolerable to watch.
I can remember seeing the advertisements, but I'm not sorry I missed it.

It's certainly an odd movie. It starts off feeling like a fun, lighthearted kid's movie about a teenage boy and his robot but then takes a very dark turn. I know Warner Brothers and Wes Craven didn't see eye to eye and they made him change a lot from his original vision. But for what it's worth I enjoy the movie as it is. I think it has an interesting story, well written characters that feel like real people, and a couple good gore scenes if you're into that.
