Newman's Oscar

Just another case of an actor that should have won for earlier roles so he gets one more for career achievement rather than for the role itself.

I agree. There were many other roles he should have won for.

I agree this wasn`t a worthy performance to win the Oscar for , if hadn`t won for this I don`t think he would`ve end up winning any at all . His other 2 nominations after this were for Nobody`s fool and Road to Perdition , he would`ve been more deserving to win for Nobody`s fool but Tom Hanks was the favourite that year and overdue sympathy would`ve worked for Newman I don`t think like it did for this film.

reply

He should have at least been nominated for Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956) and perhaps won. Such a great actor and I am so sad when I think we will never see him perform again.

Yes I was sad too when he passed away , it was so unexpected didn`t know there was anything wrong with him. I wish he was still alive , even if he didn`t act again.

reply

Not only was he a great actor but he was a good person too. Started Newman's Own and gave it all to charity. Someone I knew saw him in Connecticut regularly with his wife Joanne Woodward and said he always gave a good tip no matter what. Even if the person didn't deserve it.

He was so gorgeous too lol, he was like the dream man couldn`t keep your eyes off him watching him on screen . Like you said he was a such a nice person off screen , I should be so jealous of Joanne she was one lucky lady and to been married for 50 years is so uncommon now with actors who marry one another.

reply

Agreed, Paul Newman deserved the Oscar for The Hustler and The Verdict. Was Paul Newmans performance in the Color of Money even worthy of an oscar nomination. In my opinion, Bob Hoskins deserved the oscar for Mona Lisa. He was that good.

reply

Yes, Newman's earlier performances were much more deserving than this one. But frankly, I've always thought his performance in this film was award-worthy in its own right.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
