What kind of a screenplay is this??

I can't tell what they're talking about half of the time...

There is a lot of underground pool/gambling lingo, but nothing too cryptic. It's realistic.

Also a lot of insults to the intelligence of the audience and general lowest common denominator juco screenwriting.

Just watch the dinner scene near the beginning of the film. Yeah...f--k you too Martin.

There was a lot of references to 80s stuff like "which twin has the Toni?" I think it is some hair care product and they had two twins in the ad with the same hair style & that does not make sense to people who didn't grow up or live through the 80s and watch lots of television. Also the jokes by Vincent don't make much sense like "hey, wasn't that the guy in the bible with many colored coat?" So a lot of the dialogue is indeed dated or obscure. I don't think he was talking about the gambling slang. It made no sense to me in the 80s or until recently when I found out about it online.

A lot of Vincent's dialogue and jokes are just stupid. He was a flake as Eddie said. Like when Eddie says have you heard of a hustle called "two brothers and a stranger" and Vincent says "yeah, isn't he the guy in the bible with the many colored coat?" Or when Eddie says "it's like which twin has the Toni?" to Carmen. I never understood that until I asked about it on imdb forums and someone said it was like a hair care ad with two twins who had the same hajr style saying if you can't tell the difference then why pay for an expensive product. In reality neither probably used the product, they were just picked off the street.

Surely the movie has very dated obscure cultural references right down to the video game Vincent plays that I've never heard of and I played lots of video games in the 80s and hung out in arcades a lot. TRON was a much more familiar game that was sitting right beside Stocker in the bar.
