Newman actually won an Oscar for his wooden performance!!

This is why I never watch the Academy Awards show!! And why I don't care who wins those awards!! The people on that board has clearly always been morons!!

It's run by politics and giving people credit for other performances that were ignored rather than actually honoring the best. They rarely get anything right. The fact that "2001: ASO" lost to "Oliver!" in 1968 says it all.

Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong, and sometimes it's just a lifetime achievement award to compensate all the other times the person has lost. I think Scorsese has the record in the area.

Yes it's bitter-sweet also that when they eventually gave Scorsese his richly-deserved Oscar it was for an overrated movie that's one of the weakest in his cannon. Clearly an 'apology Oscar' like Newman's.
