What happened to Burt Gordon?

If this has been asked before I apologize. Burt Gordon was the gambler who told Eddie at the end of The Hustler that he had better not ever walk into a big time pool hall again, which is something that Eddie did in this film. I've always wondered why the writers never accounted for this and it could have been handled very easily by a mention of Burt's death or mending fences with Eddie over the years.

The ignoring of it gives the movie a real life touch. Not everything in life is always wrapped up or told. More than likely in reality Gordon wouldn't have been mentioned. It's been 25 years since he told Eddie that. He's most likely forgotten about Eddie, stopped caring, or moved on to other endeavors and stopped being in the pool shark business therefore doesn't care what Eddie's doing anymore.

You got the message!

Bert Gordon who was played by George C. Scott was still alive at the time of filming, so in theory Bert Gordon is still seen to be alive. You would have thought Bert would have made an appearance somewhere in the movie possibly turning up at Chalky's. Only very minor references were made to the hustler in this movie.

You best stick to laugh-tracked comedy, it'll tell ya what to do!
