Question About Broud (Warning:Spoilers)
The scene where he rapes Ayla, was it lust, spite, or revenge?

shareIt was spite and revenge. It's explained better in the book. Broud hated Ayla since she stole much-desired attention from him and because she bucked Clan rules/traditions. Broud had spent much time and effort running Ayla ragged making her wait on him hand and foot (which was her duty as a woman). Eventually he ran out of petty things to order her to do, until she "became a woman" (got her first menstrual period). Suddenly he realized there was something else he could make her do. Any time a man of the clan gave "the signal" a woman was required to present and let him "relieve his needs".
Her reaction the first time only made him want to do it more. He made her do it every chance he got to the point that she was despondent. When she resigned herself to it and stopped reacting, merely getting into position so he could get it over let her go on her way, he lost interest (even losing his ability to get aroused).
I need to learn that signal, what a great culture...
