what mall is it?

Does anyone know if this movie was filmed in a real mall and if so, where? The mall is huge.......

Though I have never been to either of them (I live in Illinois) I'm pretty sure that the Beverley Center was used for the exterior shots and the Sherman Oaks Galleria was used for the interior stuff. I haven't watched the commentary track in a while but I'm pretty sure this is what Wynorski said.

Also, I think Scenes From A Mall was shot at the Beverly Center and the end of Jackie Brown was shot in Sherman Oaks. Since these malls are both in California they get used a lot in movies. Valley Girl was another one at the Galleria. Hope it helps!

You're right, the interior scenes were indeed filmed at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. It was also used in Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Terminator 2. According to the commentary and documentary on the "Fast Times" DVD, the mall was reduced to rubble in 1999 with an office building to take it's place. They also showed some film of some of the pillars and other remains before they were completely destroyed. At least we still have some movies that featured that huge mall to remember it by!

Yep, the exterior shot at the beginning of the movie was the Beverly Center and all the rest (interior) was filmed inside the Sherman Oaks Galleria...which was rebuilt after 1999 to an open-air mall. I like the original better!

Sherman Oaks Gallaria. It was totally rebuilt in the late 90's, doesnt look the same. The Galleria was ultra cool in the 80's, the Valley isnt cool anymore though...

BTW Jackie Robinson was shot at Del Amo Center in Torrance, it is a real mall.

What a cheesy movie, I can't belive it is being shown right now on The Movie Channel.

yeah... its weird how many movies were shot there and youd never know from going there now. destroying the landmark from this and phantom of the mall - a sin!

Look at the opening credits, the street signs are in downtown LA, also some of the night shots show the LA area as well.

FYI..Anything referred to as a Galleria should just be obliterated to the ground by islamic extremists. Screw Sherman Oaks and its galleria!! Good riddance

The movie was filmed mostly at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, but three scenes were filmed elsewhere, not counting the previously mentioned Beverly Center exterior shots.

The scene where the girls collect weapons was filmed at a hardware store. The director said in his commentary that he shot the scene "tight" (ie, no wide angles) to disguise how large the store was.

Two scenes were filmed at Roger Corman's movie studio. The air duct that the girls were crawling through was a mock-up, and the paint store at the end alternated between being a real store at the mall (in the shots where Kelli Maroney was looking out the window) and a reconstruction of the store at the Corman lot (the outside shots, the dumping of paint and other chemicals and of course, the explosion).

I know it's not now, but when I went to the Crystal City mall in Washington D.C., I was sure it was that one.

late to the party as always, but what the others said. Sadly, the oaks galleria was demolished in 1999, there's a new open air one instead, which is much smaller. i've been there (at the time I had no idea stuff had been filmed there) to the modern centre, which is OK but not very impressive.

however, here are photos of the old galleria pre 1999 (from the time CM was filmed). You can see the similarities!

awesome pictures, thanks for sharing. It's such a shame they decided to demolish such a building

The mall was largely destroyed in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. That helped in their decision to demolish it.
