Piper Laurie

I had always had the impression Laurie's Oscar nomination was fairly undeserved, but having re-watched it again I only wish they had given her more screentime to develop her character a little more. But with the little she is given I felt she did great in conveying the whole frustration of her character.

Her scene, the one that probably got the attention to get her nominated, is the one after her daughter returns home. Wow! This time I really was mesmerized by it. And I was more amazed by the way she signs, which feels very amateurish and I guess it was intended to be such to further explain the abyss that separates her from her daughter, like she cared just little enough to learn the basics but not enough to fully understand her daughter. I loved the parallelism and I loved Laurie in that scene.
