Anyone else find this movie depressing?

I was about 8 years old when this movie came out and I remember seeing it on HBO or Disney or cable. It was on a lot and I always watched it. While I didn't know it as a child, I was prone to depression and had a tendency to feel blue at times.

Did anyone else find this movie depressing or sad? I did. Not sure if I am associating this with myself as a sad little girl who didn't know why she was sad and this movie compounded that. But even rationally today, I still find the plot sad.

As an adult, I am going through a rough patch for the past month. For some reason, this movie keeps flashing in my head and its making me more blue! I am just yearning for the simple days when life seemed easier and the fantasy of childhood was more golden.

The movies aren't real life but sometimes they are a nice escapism. Thank you for reading.
