Still quite moving after all these years.
I recently picked up a DVD of this to rent to watch this again for the first time in about 15 years, when I was about 12 years old. I was afraid that the film would have aged and become maudlin like some of the films I enjoyed as a kid (ala Invasion from Mars, Last Starfighter) but I was happily pleased that film is just as good as I remember it. This is the kind of film that is very rare nowadays; the kind of family friendly entertainment that isn't bland or crude (or animated) yet everyone can enjoy it and get something out of it. Some of the effects are slightly dated and the hairstyles sometimes give away the age but other than that, it still a pretty relevant film by today's standards. And yes the film gave me a tear or two near the end (I hate it when that happens). So if there is any doubt this film sucks now that you are an adult, then you need to pick this one up again but it still is a great film. A testament to the timelessness of the themes and emotions touched upon here.
