I just watched this for the first time in at least 22+ years and wow--what an utterly depressing, sad movie with a horrible ending. I watched this quite a bit as a kid but then simply never saw it again til now and I do remember it being sad but this is just a complete downer.

How is it a downer? He broke free and flew away from being trapped in an institution. As for Milly, I'm sure he saw her again one day and even if he didn't they both changed each other in positive ways. It's a fantasy movie not to be taken so seriously. I always found it uplifting.

You'd have to be pretty depressed already to find this movie anything but awesome and heartwarming. It is my all time favorite movie. When I get depressed, i watch this to sooth the pain. It's weird watching it as an old dude, because when i was a kid, I had a crush on Lucy and now, if I forget who i am I still feel that old crush. I then snap to and realize I am having romantic feelings about someone who was 14 then and who is 46 now, lol
shareI haven't watched it since the early 90's and I watched this all the time on HBO in the late 80s/early 90's. I was thinking about buying on VUDU but I was curious if this aged well for most people.
