Redford and Duvall?
I noticed at the end that Robert Redford and Robert Duvall are thanked in the credits. Anyone know what part they played in the development?

shareI found Belizaire the Cajun book on books.google.com. In the preview, you can read the making of the film.

Very interesting read: basic synopsis is the script was sent to the Sundance Institute (Redford founded it) which gives out a helping hand to writers and directors. They provided a cast and crew to film about half of the script as a trial and Gail Youngs was cast in the lead female role - they loved her so much they cast her then and there. At the time (not sure if they still are?) Robert Duvall was her husband and he came aboard as a creative consultant.
So it looks like they were fundamental in getting the film made.
Also interesting to learn - all the financing was raised in Louisiana by locals along with a $50k grant from the national endowment for the arts.
Definitely read that part in the preview. I didn't know any of this before.
