Christopher Walken and his gang start killing all the guys in Sean Penn's gang. Including his own son (the Chris Penn one) personally.

Sean Penn and Mary Stuart Masterson try to escape the city, but Walken's goons shoot them in their car before they can leave. Sean Penn survives the ambush and walks to Christopher Walken's house. He grabs a gun and starts pointing it at his Dad. The Dad gets freaked out and Sean Penn ends up deciding that he would rather see his Dad go to prison then to shoot him.

The movie ends in a courtroom, with Sean Penn on the witness stand, indicting Christopher Walken for the killings.

After that scene, there shouldve been a what happened to epilogue. It wouldve been more effective that way.

I agree, but at the time it wasn't all played out yet.
So it was really impossible to make an epilogue.

I think it was just hard/tough on Brad to admit that Brad Sr. was his dad. After having your own dad try to kill you and successfully kill your brother and girlfriend, it'd be hard to admit and comprehend that. Great acting by Penn in that scene. I like the freeze frame ending.
