Kiefer's role
I just watched this for the first time and didn't realize that Kiefer Sutherland was in it till the end. Did he really have an important role in this, or was he just there to be there?

shareI think he might have had a bigger role in the film and maybe it was cut, he was based on one of the members of the real gang and I believe is the one who led police to the graves of the other teens. I could be wrong.

i didnt recognize him at first either, since he had black hair and i've only seen him with blonde hair since then.
When you think, this was only the year before he was in The lost boys, and it was the same year he was in stand by me, and yet i think he looks alot younger in this film than he does in those.
It's not black, his hair is brown. Sean Penn also looked younger here than he did in Fast Times four years earlier.
shareI was really surprised because I saw him in the background of scenes a few times, but I can't remember him having any dialogue. I could be wrong, though.
It's made from bits of real panther, so you know it's good...
He does have some dialogue, when the "kiddie gang" discusses their last big score.
shareKeifer Sutherland was a total unknown then, but seems to be fairly prominently credited in this film. He has several appearances, but only one scene with dialog, as far as I know. His hair was colored darker than natural in this one, so you might have not recognized him when he is merely background in some scenes.
When they discuss the prospects of making the big score, he is on the right, and agrees with it.
When they are doing the heist, he is guiding the tractor into the trailer and is (presumably) locked in the back of the trailer when they get arrested.
When they are first shown in jail and the camera moves left on a dolly in the typical jail row shot, he is the first thing seen and the first to go offscreen.
At the carnival scene near the end, he is half of one of the two couples snuggled up in an amusement park ride.
At the very end, he is standing with the crowd outside the courthouse. Most people would have only noticed Keifer Sutherland in this last scene, but he was in at least four scenes before it.
I came here to find this out too. I haven't seen it in years, was on TV last night, edited version. You barely notice him till the end outside the courthouse. I don't remember him having any lines, but they show him like he was an important part of the film. And if Brad Sr. and his gang were killing anyone who could rat them out, why did they not kill his character also?
This is B-Dubb, and I approve this message.
Just there to be there. He doesn't even have a line.
shareHe has one line. When Brad Jr and his friends are sitting around talking about stealing a tractor, Kiefer (Tim) says:
"Either it's a fücked up idea, man... We get away with it, we score big, right?"
He had a bigger part but was edited out. He was the one who led police to the graves.

I immediately recognized him, however i knew what he looked like in his younger days, (Lost Boys, Stand by Me) so he didn't look unfamiliar.
He may have had a line or 2, but honestly, i didn't catch any of it... and he's like the only one of the crew who wasn't targeted to be killed, i agree with the other poster that perhaps his role was larger and left on the cutting room floor.
Funny thing was, his face is mainly advertised in the menu on the DVD, with Sean's in the bottom corner.
