No 'Cats' in America?

I just watched this film again after almost 20 years, ( I was 5 at the time) and this movie had a much darker feel. Especially the "No cats in America" song.

Obviously the second part of the refrain, " the streets where paved in cheese" makes sense being a reference to the belief the streets where paved in gold.

But no cats in America? Aside from story use, what is the main metaphor for "no cats" ?

Is it something simple or am I just over thinking it?

Basically represents there is no one to persecute them, they are free, no one evil will get them or hurt them, they can live happier lives.

I agree. It stood for the Cossacks, whom highly discriminated against the poor Eastern Jewish peasants in Russia.

"Is that you crawling up my stairs?"

No bullies - allegedly.

Ah, but ALL the mice get "bullied" by the cats, not just the Jewish-representing ones. It's just a metaphor in general for the oppressors and the oppressed.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

what did the roach represent?

The cats like many said meant there were no oprresors in Amrica. But that's only one part, the other part means there are no troubles, and that everyone will be much happier.
