I was given the nickname "Fievel" back in my freshman year of high school over 14 years ago. Finally in 2000 at the age of 23, I got a tattoo of Fievel on my shoulder. It's an original. The tattoo artist copied just Fievel off of the cover of the movie The Mystery Of The Night Monster. I also worked at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fl back in 1996 and to woo a girl, I bought her everything I could that had anything to do with Fievel. I even had the clothing dept. of the studios make me a personalized name tag that said Fievel on it. I know the song by heart and have sang it numerous times at Karaoke. Am I obsessed?

I think so... wow... rock on... seriously, ur awesome!
Fievel rocks... Fievel fans rock... and hence.. you rock!

I know generally all the songs from both AAT and FGW...and I've had a giant stuffed Fievel since before I can remember, which I still occasionally sleep with.

I love this movie, I wish Don Bluth continued to make wonderful classics such as this!!!

reply

cenzaman514, you are definately obsessed with the movie. But you shouldn't have gotten the tattoo. You may regret it later in life.
I personally know somone, who, at age 16, got a tattoo. Now he's in his 70's and has told me he regretted getting it.)

"I love this amphibian."

This was my favourite film when I was little. Last night I rummaged through my old VHS tapes and I stumbled upon An American Tale. The thing is...I STILL LOVE IT!! The drama and the characters were just exceptional. And for the 40th time in my life, I wept at the end. I wept with tears of joy. Such a great film because it shows that even if you're in the worst position of all, never give up. 'An American Tale' also reminds me of some great memroies of my childhood.

Come to think of it I think I might be a little obsessed with the film because:

(a) everytime I think "immigrant" I always think of this film.

(b) everytime I think "oppression" I always think of this film.

(c) every scene of this film is ingrained into my mind.

(d) I'm not afraid to sing out the lyrics of any song in this film.

(e) If someone asks me what my favourite film was when I was a child, I always say 'An American Tale'.

(f) If it's on TV, I will watch it until the end.

I used to watch this movie all the time when I was around 5 or 6, but then(and im completly embarrassed to admit this) I had forgotten about it completely until the 8th grade when something funny happened. That year my math teacher thought that one of the kids our class looked like Fievel. I then remembered how much I loved this movie. I then found the tape in my brother's bedroom closet and re-watched it. Then towards the end of the year, we had to do an "end-of-year project." I jus happened to get paired up with the kid whom he thought looked like Fievel. I then timed things so that as the kid arrived at my house to work on the project, I was watching it again. Then I looked at him and said, "Sorry, man. I just had to do it."

Then during my freshman year, I had another project I had to work on. The instructions were that I could give the project any title I wanted, even if it had nothing to do with the subject, so I named it "Fievel."

On MVP Baseball 2005, I created a Texas Rangers dynasty and created myself and several friends who were fans of the movie. I picked the Rangers so I could say that I "went west" just like Fievel did.

Also, for fun, I also created a relief picther and named him "Tony Toponi."

I got the soundtrack just today.

I'm now back with another interesting venture. Today I got this personalized T-shirt, advertising the un-official Fievel Mousekewitz Fan Club, 20th Anniversary (1986-2006), comeplete with an image of Fievel. This brings the number of ways to tell that I'm obsessed with this movie is to 6 or 7, or something like that.

Uh Hi I'm new here. Well I can answer #4 and 5. I just love fievel and the 2nd movie well anyway thanks!

reply

Hey 'An American Tail' obsessors
I figured you guys would be the best ones to answer this - i *think* this is a film that i watched in my childhood that i absolutely adored... and most evidence points to the affirmative, but i was wondering does this film have a scene where fievel is like, under a train or something? thats all i can remember, really. thanks!

reply

My older sister and I used to sing 'Somewhere out there' to my baby brother to calm him when he cried. This film, along with several others, instantly makes me think of my childhood, which all in all was a blessed one.
Animated films with poignant social messages such as this are no longer made. We now have millions of CGI childrens films, with only few of them being worthy of comparison to the great Disney classics and other 2D animated films such as this. Maybe I'm slightly biased, but I'll forever be greatful to my parents for allowing me watch such entertaining and knowledgeable cartoons.

reply

There was a scene where Fievel is under a train. First he walks along the tracks, and when a train comes he falls under in to a pile of soot. Hope that helped.

reply

I loved this movie as a child. When I was 7, I had a crush on Fievel. Yeah, I'm weird like that, LOL.
I absolutely love "Somewhere Out There". I used to have both this film and Fievel Goes West memorized. I just got the DVD of this movie a few weeks ago and all the memories came flooding back. :)

Nevermore!

As a kid in the 80s, this was one my most favorite movies (along with The Secret of NIMH.) I don't recall anyone else who enjoyed it like I did, though I saw it many more times after it came out on tape. I 'did' have a dog when I was like 12. A little terrier of some sort. He had a small marking on his side that looked a bit like a Mickey Mouse head - since I didn't want to be so cliché (and have never cared much for Mickey anyway), I named him Fievel.

Does anyone remember "novelizations"? That is, books based on movies. Well, when I was 7 years old, I tried writing one based on this movie. I collected all the Happy-Meal toys AND the boxes the Happy-Meals came in and cut out a picture from one of the boxes to use as the cover to the novelization I was writing. I vividly recall the theater I saw the movie in, even though I moved to another state the following year. Incidentally, the last time I saw a movie there, I recall the theater being pretty run down and I doubt it's even there anymore. I remember having a stuffed toy Fievel that had his hat stitched to his head. I cut it off so I could wear it myself. I guess since the hat was such an important motif in the film, I wanted to wear it myself. I have no idea why I was so obsessed with this movie. I'm not sure I was ever quite so obsessed with something like this before or since. I am NOT obsessed with it anymore, but I still enjoy it it brings back fond memories.

Clearly if you have a Fievel tattoo on your ass... made with a home-made brand...

you MIGHT be obsessed with An American Tail...

reply

I had Fievel Christmas stockings, an American Tale hardback book, and a plush Fievel that I had a brief crush on at age 7 (I'm even weirder than the person who said she had a crush on Fievel, which I don't think is weird at all...I had a crush on a TOY!).

I still have my plush Fievel, although the crush thankfully is long gone :P.
