Anyone like this less now?

Aliens is still a good movie, but the older I get, the more I’m drawn to the original Alien and Prometheus and see Aliens as more of a movie made for 14-year-olds; not to be taken in a bad way, but it just seems less sophisticated by comparison.

I agree with the OP... the original was iconic, mysterious and had a sense of dread... Prometheus as thought provoking as it was kinetic...

AlienS seemed like more of a team action movie, with a happy ending... in comparison

I don't disagree with that. I think that Alien has great atmosphere. Prometheus is thought provoking, but I think that that is also it's problem. Also, the more you think about Prometheus, there are things that don't totally make sense.

Aliens is just a fun watch and I think that's why I still really enjoy it.

I can't stand Ridley Scott's sequels. It's mostly because his execution was extremely lazy and formulaic. It's like he took a cue from all of the subsequent and cheaper knock-offs that were inspired by his original Alien movie and integrated them into the sequels. You can also see his penchant for emulating Kubrick's '2001' movie by focusing so much energy on David and his dysfunctional similarities to 'HAL'.

Overall, Ridley's sequels ruined the mystery of the Alien's origins. It would have been more effective just showing the fall out of humans continuing their futile efforts in coraling the Alien species to fit their needs which speaks more to the human condition than some stupid Ancient Aliens trope.

If you'd said Alien 3 rather than Prometheus you may have been on to something there...

reply

I do actually find myself liking Alien 3 a lot more than I used to, especially the Assembly Cut

reply

Heeeeellllll naw. Best one.

Also, you're a snob.

reply

(raises hand)

Though I've always loved Alien more anyway. Not only that, but Alien is still one of my favorites of all time.

Aliens, not so much. And yes, less now than then.

reply

On the contrary, I enjoy every time I watch this movie.

reply

Doesn’t hold up for me.
Cheezy dialogue with GI Joe stereotypes

reply

Yeah the dialogue is really cheesy now that I watched it. Funny I didn't feel like that at all when I was younger. I hate to admit it but it doesn't hold up.

reply

Yes. The problem for me with Aliens is that it hasn't aged that well. Many of the effects, the miniature models and some of the sets look so dated that It takes a lot of the enjoyment out of it for me. In comparsion Alien still looks fantastic. I used to think that Aliens is better than Alien but not anymore.
