I can't stand Ridley Scott's sequels. It's mostly because his execution was extremely lazy and formulaic. It's like he took a cue from all of the subsequent and cheaper knock-offs that were inspired by his original Alien movie and integrated them into the sequels. You can also see his penchant for emulating Kubrick's '2001' movie by focusing so much energy on David and his dysfunctional similarities to 'HAL'.
Overall, Ridley's sequels ruined the mystery of the Alien's origins. It would have been more effective just showing the fall out of humans continuing their futile efforts in coraling the Alien species to fit their needs which speaks more to the human condition than some stupid Ancient Aliens trope.
