Just a little question but why does Bishop apologise when Ripley asks him ‘why can’t we shut it down from here?’

He replies ‘I’m sorry, the crash caused too much damage, an overload was inevitable at this point’.

Why does he make a point of saying sorry to Ripley? I’ve never understood this.

Maybe because of the earlier confrontation with Ripley, when it was revealed he was a droid, Bishop felt he had to be gentle but honest with his news
