The ludicrous ALIENS (1986) can be written off as a dream that Ripley had whilst asleep in the Nostromo escape pod. This video explains the best way to go from ALIEN (1979) to ALIEN 3 ( 1992) without acknowledging the crowd pleasing, ludicrous, mindless shoot 'em up, ALIENS (1986). Not acknowledging the trashy and crowd pleasing ALIENS ensures the franchise remains artistic, horrific and classy.
The man with the muscles shotted the big gun. Then the other man with the muscles shotted the big gun. Then they all shotted the gunses together.. Finally, Sylvester Stallone and Schawrzenneger stumbleded onto the set of Aliens and they shotted the big gunses too.
This is supposed to be a classy, artistic horror franchise not a bullet orgasm.
Already responded to your frivolous post. Here it is again. Enjoy: -------------------------------------
Errm isn't Alien the one that is crowd-pleasing by basically being Haunted House or a copy of the breakout hit Halloween (1978) in space?
No wonder Alien made more than Alien 2-4, it basically aimed perfectly at the teen and young adult audience who wanted a pretty young girl being chased by monsters.
See - I can twist your silly argument into an equally silly (but just as warped logical) argument :)
Sorry bro, but you're in the clear clear minority if you prefer the mess that is 3 over the masterpiece that is Aliens. Then again, you're on the internet, so you're probably just trying to get a rise out of us
If you like Alien 3, that's fine. I don't particularly care for it. Lord knows many don't.
It's just i don't see the rationale of actively discarding Aliens, when it so very clearly took the concepts Ridley Scott brought to the screen and made it just as grandiose and exciting if not more exciting.
And yes, the characters aren't as refined or urbane as those in the first movie, but really who gives a *beep* They were all still likeable ancillaries who i was invested in. I don't see why just because they're "Schwarzenegger-like" = *beep* Aliens.
Like it or not, Hollywood of the 80's is not much different than the Hollywood of today. Of course they were going to make a franchise out of Alien and pump it with more action. And i'm glad it didn't go for the same atmo as the first one. Speaking of which, the action doesn't really kick off until about 35-40min. It still took its time acquaintaining Ripley and the audience with the new environment and setting. I don't see why you have a problem with this.
YOu're clearly out of your mind if you think Aliens doesn't belong as canon.
Well, a lot of people hate it first off for unceremoniously killing off Hicks and Newt, and the messy plot that SCREAMS studio interference. Decent production design and budding talent in David Fincher were practically wasted on a half-assed effort that soured our investment in these characters for a long time, not to mention almost drive David Fincher to never direct another movie. For that alone, amongst many other things, Fox should have been banished to the phantom zone for that *beep* The assembly cut is a little more coherent and fleshed out, but it doesn't excuse what Fox did to its fanbase as well as Fincher.
Again, No. Nein. Nope. Non. The fact that you have zero likes on your pages goes to show how out of touch your are with the fanbase. You like Alien 3. Again, your prerogative. But to actively try to appeal to the fans with a middle finger to Aliens is a downright insult to the fandom
I'm not in to fit in with a fanbase consisting of action fans. Big guns and people greasing up each others muscles isn't my bag. I prefer classy horror films such as ALIEN and ALIEN 3. Films that don't pander to the lowest common denominator.
It is simply a matter of trying to make people understand that to approve a basic Schwarzenegger shoot em up - ALIENS - is a major insult to the franchise.
Aliens is anything but straight forward shoot em up, it just does something different from the first movie. If anything, it'd be more insulting if they went for the same feel of the first one. And it's not always running and gunning. It's still a very human picture. I don't know why you're so fixated solely on the "macho"
Indeed. It's all so very cosy and nice as all horror films should be. Especially with Space Family Robinson all tucked up safely in their beds at the end heading off to their next big, cosy adventure...
Hey dumbass, the first movie ended the same way, with Ripley and Jones put into stasis just as Ripley,Hicks and Newt were. Oh, but it's ok because Alien was all "arty" n' *beep* GTFO here with that *beep* logic. Ridley Scott admitted that Alien was nothing more than a well-made, well designed B-movie. Why can't Aliens fall under that merit?
Yep, it ended the same way with a lone frightened woman drifting in deep space.
No reassurance of a cosy family unit there. Perhaps the star of the film Dallas should have survived too instead of being slaughtered halfway in. He could have been the daddy to Ripley and her cosy cat.
All three of them snug and content.
Perhaps the whole crew could have survived? This way we wouldn't have any horrible things happening.
ok, now i KNOW you're trolling. They were "cosy" right after Ripley single-handedly pushed the Queen out the airlock(with some help from the disemboweled Bishop). The "coziness" was earned after a cool finale.
Dude, you're a headache. If you can't see or acknowledge the good things in Aliens, then you really are a troll or you're one of those "purists" that want things consistent and bland with outings.
I like "Alien3" for what it is and I don't want it to be just discarded by the proposed Blomkamp escapade.
However, the above quoted statement is spurrious logic at best. There was no "franchise" per se until "Aliens." There was a stand-alone film which begged the question of Ripley's fate but it took seven years for a sequel to be released. Without "Aliens," there is no franchise, no "Alien3," "Resurrection" (ugh), no nothing.
Everyone else, stop feeding him. You all know by now he is just teolling, or seriously deluded with no changing his mind. everything he is saying is just to insult all alien fans. Stop making this a viral thread and let it and the troll... die.
I joined the Navy to see the world, only to discover the world is 2/3 water!
Hey asshat troll leave the film alone, tee hee only joking your entitled to your opinion and what not, I haven't seen alien 3 in yonks, didn't David Fincher completely disown it? Did anybody ever see the nostalgia critics review of alien resurrection , so funny
You said that. I did not. "Alien3" is not a direct sequel to "Alien" in any way, spiritual or otherwise. That's an intellectually dishonest statement. It is a continuation of Ripley's story, of which "Aliens" is a part.
You Alien 3 fanboys can be the most delusional group of movie fans. Jesus. You can not disregard and forget Aliens and its importance to film history that easily.
Get off your soapbox while I play you a tune on the tiniest violin.
Who said A:R and AVP do? There is a divide between fans of Alien, Aliens and Alien Cubed, but I don't think anyone who is serious would actually admit to liking or even considering the AVP films canon...
Admitting to liking them is akin to telling your mates you actually quite liked that fat chick you finger-blasted while drunk on white cider in the park a few years ago... Not actual events ;)

I don't agree. I do like them and she wasn't that fat, nor was it white cider!!!!
If those pen pushers up at city hall don't like it,well, they swivel on this middle digit!

It's not cool... not at all. Just the opposite, in fact. But a couple of OftenTroll posters have, for whatever reason, decided to go on a mission with a stack of sockpuppets to post a string of Hater/H8r threads... and I use that term, as they likely are complete children!!
