After the Alien is blown into space...

After Ripley blasts the Alien queen into outer space at the climax.
Anyone have any theories into what would happen to the Alien? Would it die off or just float around in space forever as it seems to not need oxygen to breathe etc.

I've always wondered where people got the idea of Xenomorphs not needing oxygen to breathe when the movies have never confirmed it.

In A4 they seemed just fine functioning underwater, for how long though exactly we don't know.

reply

Yeah, the people were able to swim underwater too. What's your point?

reply

My point is the Xeno didn't appear to be in any hurry while hunting humans underwater as if he had to quickly get back to oxygen like the humans do.

Another reason could be if the eggs in A1 were actually in a cavern as opposed to the cargo hold of the U-Ship (which even if the case didn't appear to have any air circulating) the eggs with the living FHs inside could exist in extremely adverse environments as stated by Ash. Humans circa A1 could not breathe on LV426 without spacesuits and helmets.

These are all facts pointing towards possibly allowing the Xenos to live without air, not proof positive. You asked where do people get these ideas from.

reply

Interesting question. Perhaps it is meant to mirror Ripley, floating around in space often. I don't know.

Depending on it's biology, maybe freeze up and eventually be found by another unlucky space faring race.

...then whoa, differences...

Even if they don't need to breath, and if she doesn't eventually freeze solid, and if she can withstand the vacuum indefinitely without bursting, then she's still in orbit around LV-426 and will eventually re-enter the atmosphere and if she doesn't burn to a crisp, then she'll slam into the ground at couple hundred miles an hour and surely be splattered across the landscape.

Thit and thpin!
