i read their thread on the imdb shutdown. seems like they don't like the idea of their little pond becoming a big pond. Apparently all us here are just trolls and racists and don't have anything to contribute.

Evidently, you've only read the first pages
of that thread, from before February 5th.
Your information is now out-of-date!

Since February 5th, the situation has changed:
TMDb admin Travis Bell decided to reopen the boards on
all title and name pages, and since then he is
on-record welcoming newcomers.

"Reopen" isn't exactly an appropriate word. He brought them back because prior to the influx of IMDB users they did not generate a lot of interest. Most of the users there just discussed things in a general forum. And not movie/TV/actor/actress specific. Hope that clears it up some for you. Travis ("owner" of the site) has been very nice and listened to suggestion from IMDB "refugees" and implemented a lot of new things based on our suggestions.
