LOVED THIS MOVIE BUT....

i think the directors did a poor job and had a very little sense of creativity.

there were just too many sex scenes and montages. these served as fillers in lieu of an actual script.

montages are those typical 80's love movie scenes that have no lines and plays a song from the soundtrack while time elapses and the actors are shown doing events. for example, when debbie is moving in with dan, we hear sheena easton singing "we got a natural love" or when dan is stirring the spaghetti sauce while bob segar is singing "living inside my heart" stuff like that.

don't get me wrong. i love the movie. it brings back memories because it is very similar to the relationship i had with my wife before we married. yes we broke up and got back.

but i think it could have been better without all the fillers.

I do agree with your comments.

Rob Lowe and Demi Moore combined well
but i am obsessed with this movie due to the comedy
provided by James Belushi.

I do like romance in movies as long as its not overdone.

it's on the about last night soundtrack. i bought it originally for that song but the whole album is great so it's definitely worth the purchase.

In part you're right, but this is a love story, therefore is natural to find in it a lot of sex scenes. I enjoy the sex in this movie because it's no vulgar at all and represents perfectly the chemestry between Debby and Denny. I also enjoy Bernie and Joan's dialogues.

I was 23 when this movie was released and it captured the time period very well. 1986 was the early days of the music videos witch led many directors to try and capture a younger audience with style over substance.

The director (Edward Zwick) was the executive producer/director of the popular TV series “thirtysomething” in the same era. If you were a fan of both, you would have seen many similarities in the way many scenes were set-up.

The movie was taken from David Mamet a play called "Sexual Perversity in Chicago." The entire first act is the story Litgo tells Danny on the El, so, yeah, they probably did have to fill quite a bit. Still, these montages work for me. They do move the story along and never give the impression that they're just there as filler.

I found the soundtrack on CD (at Virgin Megastore, 16th Street Mall, Denver) just last week. Sounds as good today as it did in '86!
