Jim Belushi
Belushi was so funny in this film. His "According to Jim" TV character seems a lot to me like Bernie. Love this film!!!

shareI think it was his best work.
shareI disagree, I think he was an intolerable bore. No one in their right mind would spend 5 minutes around this loudmouth a-hole. Totally gross.

Belushi was great in this movie, but his act wore thin QUICKLY. I can't stand to look at him now. Believe it or not, there was a time when there was hope he might, if not surpass, at least live up to big brother's talent (a lot of people liked him in the cop movie with Schwarzenegger...Red Heat. and I guess Salvador)...uh, no, not quite. But he had his moment here...
shareOther than the gorilla in "Trading Places", I think he's at his best when playing a semi-juvenile like he did in "Taking Care of Business". But he needs a good solid straight-man to work off of (Like David Spade did with Farley).
I think he and Chevy Chase together would have been a fantastic pairing.
I'm holding everyone to a higher standard- a standard much higher than my own
I vaguely remember Taking Care Of Business (is that the 1 with Linda Hamilton? Or he takes over a rich guy's house? I'd look it up but I'm on my phone right now...), and I remember there were a few movies where he got positive reviews, but I don't think his act could ever really play outside of the 80s, and I don't think he viewed comedy (or acting in general) as something that could be perfected (like his brother John did); I get the impression he's perfectly content to play the same one-note characters in lousy sitcoms...I try not to be too hard when a comedic actor has to be in a show that's beneath him (like Spade in Rules of Engagem$ent) to pay the bills...as long as they don't let their talent just rot on the vine; that doesn't apply to Jim Belushi: he, for some reason doesn't do anything anymore that mighjt be considered "quality". The truth is, I'm sure, he isn't offered much of those roles anymore...now whether he even TRIES for those roles is a mystery to me...but he did have a window of time where it looked like he might be something, but that's long past, and I don't think he was ever in the league of even Farley (who was John Belushi-lite)
Yeah, that's the one where he takes over the rich guy's house.
He does maintain the same "lovable oaf" character in most of his projects. It suits him. But you're right that his window has closed and he pretty much has to take whatever's offered.
Still, I think he was able to get out under the shadow of his brother and that in itself is a remarkable achievement, considering the odds against it. Just ask Bill Murray's brother John.

jeez, what made you think about John Murray? lol...I always wonder what happened to that guy! He was in Moving Violations in the 80s...then, not much! Just looked up his iMdb profile and there's a 17 tear gap betweeen projects! It's strange, cuz the other 2 brothers of Bill Murray (Brian Doyle-Murray and Joel Murray) are fairly successful actors...do you know if John Murray fell on hard times? It sounds like you know something about why his career stalled...
shareNo. I just remember him in "Moving Violations". I think that should be enough.

Jennifer Tilly got to stretch out in 'Moving Violations' though lol...she did play a rocket scientist after all...
been a long long time since I've seen MV, but I remember John Murray being very very 'affected', meaning he was trying so hard to be "cool"...he wasn't much of an actor, to be sure; he's like the "Stephen" if you were to compare the Murray's with the Baldwins:
Alec=Bill
Stephen=John
Daniel=Brian Doyle AND Joel
(there is no Billy Baldwin in the Murray family, no actor with good looks and nothing else. Looks definitely passed the Murrays over; but 3 of the 4 are talented. Especially like Joel in 'Mad Men'...and on that note I'm gonna stop cuz I've strayed very far from the subject of the thread.)
"Looks definitely passed the Murrays over"
I've only ever seen John in Scrooged and he was a good-looking guy.
I'm happiest...in the saddle.
Rob's character found him amusing to listen to. There are friendships like that.
