Hi, I just found this on the cannell.com website: "VEI of Canada will release Stingray on DVD in December, 2007. We will update this page when we have a confirmed date."
Track down Nick? You make it sound like he hasn't been around since the series ended. His IMDB filmography shows that he has been working regularly since the series ended.
Not my intention that he hasn't been working... I've seen a decent amount of his post SR work.
My intent was to say that whoever is producing the DVD set should make the effort to contact Nick and see if he would do some commentary.
Reason I say that is that there have been some tv series that have been released on dvd that some studios appear not to have thought about/ made an attempt to approach cast members in respect to commentary. I know some actors will not do commentary unless they get compensation, and if the studio doesn't want to give that, then that's fine, but at least the attempt was made to have cast members involved.
I still find it a lost opportunity that Buck Rogers made it to DVD and no commentary from Gil or Erin... and I hope that at least some attempt is made to talk to the surviving cast members from Mission Impossible. Considering some of the bad blood on Barbara and Martin's departure from the series, I don't hold out hope for their participation, but I'd hope someone from the studio would want to try and include commentary and ask Graves, Lupus, and some of the later team members. Graves isn't hard to find either, but the studio would have to have those plans and get the ball rolling and try.
But that is the vein I was looking at Stingray in regards to Nick doing commentary. He wouldn't be hard to contact, so I hope the studio, Cannell, etc do so and want to do commentary tracks if possible.
I hope it is true! I been wait since 1985 for the show to be on DVD! I hope they do the entire series instead of doing it in seasons. Some tv dvd series sold in the seasons format get only to the first season and then are dropped. I hope they just go and package it for the entire tv series. I think if you are devoted to the Singray TV series; you be happy to purchase all the episodes at one time - even if the cost is high!
I hope they will go the "complete series" set instead of trying to break it up. The first season was just a "half season" at best since it was a mid season replacement series. Granted, I could live with just the 1st season getting to dvd if I had to... loved the entire 1st season, but I thought most of the 2nd season eps were miss rather than hit.
I think from a marketing perspective, it would make more sense to do the entire series... I'm sure the studio and Cannell realise that it's a niche series that probably will not garner mainstream interest given it wasn't a well known series to begin with, and now it's 20+ years later (wow, I really am getting old). That being said, it doesnt do much good to "test the waters" for future dvd sales when there's only another season left.
This is truly awesome news. Why great series like these are tossed aside and others survive is a mystery. Hopefully the entire series, like Buck Rogers will be released in one presentation.

Hey, these are great news! I used to watch this show. I loved it's sense of mistery and intrigue. definitely loved the concept of paying with a favor instead of money. Please by all means, as soon as you find out that the DVD's for this show has come out, please let me know. I will keep researching myself, see what I could find out. and the corvette, I love it too!! take care.
