While I Like Phillips and Scott, What They're Missing Is...

...that "I respect you yet I hate you" banter that Siskel and Ebert had nailed to a tee. The two were always trading insults, even when they were guests on other talk shows. I know that supposedly they really did get along, but that banter was part of the act.

With Ebert and Roeper it was similar in style. The two of them liked one another, but they would still have pretty intense fights when they disagreed, especially since Roeper had a reputation for hating every movie.

Lyons and Menkewicz...terrible. None of that.

Phillips and Scott are both good critics, interesting to listen to and have credibility, but they're not particularly entertaining guys I would rush to see in any other forum. Recently they were guests on The View and, again, whereas Siskel and Ebert were great personalities (virtually a comedy duo), these two were just two stiff, awkward guys.

Scott is ok, but I miss Roeper. He could have good banter with Philips.

I'm actually getting used to those two, even though they're not as good as "Siskel & Ebert", but they're way better than the two Bens! Although, I don't like Roeper, he does share some chemistry with Phillips.

They were actually the opposite -- obviously hated each other but did everything to appear to get along.

Well, they didn't do it in an entertaining way. At what points during their time together did you find that obvious?

It's more from what I read about them and the show at the time.

If you remember that Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert were from rival newspapers, Gene Siskel was from the Chicago Tribune and Roger Ebert was from the Chicago Suntimes. Now Michael Philips is from the Chicago Tribune, and A.O Scott is from the New York Times, and I don't think that they are rival newspapers at all. Since they are from 2 different cities. And still I don't think Philips showed any rivarly with Richard Roeper either. And I don't think that Michael Philips nor A.O. Scott are intrested in leaving their current jobs as film critics, for their papers, and move to the same city, and become the film critic for the rival newspaper, that the other works at. And plus I am tht both newspapers, will already have their own movie critic alrighty since Roger Ebert is still alive, and reviewing for the Chicago Suntimes.

The best thing about them was the "I hate you, f@@k, you, you idiot frat boy" look in Mank's eyes everytime Lyons opened his mouth.

He can NOT be a part of me! Batman does NOT eat nachos!!

I like them but i agree with you there is that lack of edge that was always between Roger and Gene. I think there going to get better.

If they got rid of that stupid rent it, i think it would cause more arguments.
