Thoughts on At the Movies and its departure

Since it's airing it's last episode depending on your affliates around the country, I like to add my thoughts to the show and it's end of the program.

The show debuted in 1986 as Siskel and Ebert and The Movies which was my introduction to not only the duo but as a movie reviewing show. I was only four years old when the show ended but it left a lasting impact on me because without the show, I wouldn't ranting and raving about films on the IMDb like I'm doing today.

There's always The Rotten Tomatoes Show for a weekly show, but it just wouldn't be the same without this landmark show which changed the way we view films before we even get a chance to see the film.

The balcony is now offically closed.

It's very sad for me, because At The Movies introduced me to films I normally wouldn't have seen if not for the wonderful praise Siskel, Ebert, Roeper, Phillips and Scott showered on them.

One False Move, Hoop Dreams, In Bruges, Volver, and Downfall are prime examples of films that they got me to see.

I still have hope that Ebert and Roeper can work out something on Starz and bring back a similar show (and the Thumbs)

The problem was when Roger and Richard left in 2008 due to Disney wanting to take the show in a new direction. They changed the set so it didn't look like a balcony and hired two idiot critics (the Bens). It was a mistake they couldn't correct, even with bringing back Michael Phillips and AO Scott. Well, Roger is supposed to be launching a new show so the balcony will re-open.
