What was the actual reason for the change in appearance of the GBs?

I've assumed it was something to do with likeness rights, but simply giving Egon and Ray dark brown hair wouldn't make them look exactly like Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. I'm thinking the actual reason was three of the Ghostbusters are brown-haired white men in beige jumpsuits. They wanted the characters to have unique looks so kids wouldn't mix them up. That's probably the reason they gave them unique jumpsuit colors as well.

I think you are actually correct. That was the reason.

I never thought of Slimer as a bad ghost. He was just having fun and eating, and he was scared, that's why he slimed Peter. Possible?

reply

Definitely possible, he's not a bad guy ghost, he's not trying to take over the world, he's just trying to eat...and drive a bus in the second movie. During the AMC Storynotes for Ghostbusters it was said one paranormal researcher DOES believe there are ghosts like Slimer who are just hungry and try to eat and drink.

I was mad in 7th grade when we were playing a board game at school and one of the questions was Who is the Ghostbuster's arch nemesis and the answer was Slimer. The people who made that game are idiots. Slimer is like a little cat compared to Gozer and the Marshmallow Man.

The only place Slimer was ever portrayed as an actual enemy was the original animated pilot (it's on the complete series release).

On the Ghostbusters II DVD there are two animated episodes, one of them shows them getting the more colorful jumpsuits after returning from defeating Vigo. The movie jumpsuits become possessed by Vigo's mood slime.

reply

No, Citizen Ghost has the possessed movie jumpsuits set after the first movie. Partners in Slime is the episode set after the fight with Vigo in Ghostbusters II.

That was after their fight with Gozer. And it wasn't mood slime, it was the marshmallow from Stay Puft that had a absorbed a large amount of pyscho kenetic energy.

reply

What Egon said was that the suits had absorbed a lot of dangerous ectoplasmic energy themselves. He said nothing about the remnants of Gozer.

However the marshmallow gunk being on the suits adding to the overall radiation hazard IS a reasonable bit of speculation
